Four days later, crew members Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the lunar surface in the Lunar Module, Eagle, and became the first humans to walk on the moon. On 16 July 1969, after preparatory work done during earlier Apollo missions, the US Space Agency NASA launched Apollo 11 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Although the Soviets had a significant space programme that had already succeeded in sending both the first satellite and the first cosmonaut into space, the Americans believed they could beat them in the race to the moon. The drive to achieve this goal was given greater urgency by the intense Cold War rivalry with the Soviet Union. He said: ‘I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.’ He added, ‘No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind… and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish.’ The US government’s intention to be the first nation to send astronauts to the moon was signalled in President John F Kennedy’s 1961 speech to the US Congress. We’ve never seen a picture like this so its hard to tell if its real or not.Buzz Aldrin walks on the surface of the moon near the leg of the Lunar Module © Nasa The lighting on the picture seems too real to be faked and the surroundings of the subject are not known to anyone so that it also another main reason. Personally I feel as if something this big could not be faked by some people in costumes and background. Some people believe that it was faked whereas some people believe it is real. There are many conspiracies behind this picture.

I personally like the fact that it is showing the surroundings more then the subject for the reason it is quite more important than the subject itself. The surroundings of the subject are more in focus I feel as if this to show the viewer that the surroundings are more important then the subject itself as it is quite a big step for the world (and a small one for mankind). Though you can clearly see the reflection from the helmet showing the surroundings which is quite in focus. Within the image the main subject isn’t really in focus though you can see it very well. Though some lighting can be edited onto the whole image so there may be a case of it being edited on but it still gives the effect of focusing on the subject and the surface. I try and use natural lighting when taking my own pictures. I personally like the lighting is all natural.

I think this is so that the viewer see’s the surface and notices its not a normal floor and also so that they notice that the subject is the main focus of the whole image. The background is quite dark whereas the flooring and the actual subject is quite bright. The lighting puts the main focus on the subject. There is no way that on the moon they could of used artificial lighting on the moon. The lighting within this image is all natural. Though I feel as if it still fits in perfectly with the picture as it shows that the surroundings of the subject are just important. With the rule of thirds the subject isn’t in the right place for that. Though most photographers don’t exactly do that on purpose and just let it happen. If you think of it they could of used the golden spiral because it fits in perfectly. Within this picture the photographer could of used a number of compositions to make it more effective. Though another thing about the framing is that in the helmet you can see the reflection of the surroundings in front of the subject showing a bit more in depth and putting more into the framing, Composition The background of the picture behind the subject is black which brings the attention to the brighter things like the flooring and also the subject itself. Though you also have surroundings around him showing the viewer what the moon is like and it shows very clearly its the moon. The reason for this is because you have the main subject in near enough the middle of the picture. I feel as if the framing of this whole picture is perfect. I will be going into to depth about all of these and adding a few extra things which may be interesting to read. I will be talking through the framing, compositions, lighting, focus and the basic meaning behind it. The man on the moon picture has been chosen by me to analyse.
